BOYS VOLLEYBALL: TAS vs. ISM
In the MS gym at 1pm, International School Manila (ISM) and Taipei American School (TAS) boys had their last game of the preliminary round. The gym was filled with fellow ISM students supporting the ISM team, but it was also remarkable that almost one third of the bleachers were filled with TAS parents and athletes cheering for their TAS boys. Everyone was nervous for this game, as not only did TAS and ISM both have 4 points overall (1 win and 3 losses), this game could determine which team would proceed to the semi-finals.
ISM was in the lead during the entire first set. Brian C. (#10 of ISM) scored consecutively through his powerful serves, making the score 7-1. TAS almost caught up with a score of 10-7, but ISM soon made the score difference even greater to 21-9. TAS seemed to be quite nervous and pressured by the big score difference, as they were making some obvious mistakes, giving even more points to the ISM team. Then came the matchpoint at 24:13. The sharp attack of Jared F. (#6 of ISM) ended the first set, with ISM’s clear victory. In the first set, ISM scored almost twice more than TAS.
The second set, however, was the opposite. In the beginning, ISM and TAS were very close, with a tied score or a difference of just one point. But after the first timeout of the second set, TAS started to lead the game, moving the scores to 14-22. TAS’s strikes, which ISM kept missing, were really fast and strong. Eventually, TAS won the second set with a score of 16-25.
Lastly, the third set started with TAS scoring 4 points in a row. The intense atmosphere was obvious, as the ISM crowd was worried that the Bearcats would lose the set and the game. But ISM started catching up quickly and won 15-11! This time, it was Brian C. (#10 of ISM) who scored the final point, making ISM the winner of the game.
Both teams did extremely well. Let’s all wish them good luck on their upcoming games!
