In the heat of Manila, the ISKL Panthers took on the TAS Tigers for the opening game of this year’s IASAS boys soccer tournament. Both team’s fan sections brought their A-game to showcase what energy they would bring the remainder of the IASAS tournament.
Both sides of the field started the match and soccer tournament with unmistakable intensity. One might even say too intense of a start, observing how a forward from ISKL got injured and taken out in the 7th minute of the game – soon followed by Juan F. from the panthers who went down with an injury in the 37th minute.
Jeronimo J. turned a scoreless game into a game in which the panthers were on top, they took the lead 1-0 in the 16th minute. The score stayed the same until halftime as TAS struck out on various volley opportunities to score. The audience could tell that the heat had been greatly fatiguing the athletes because after a halftime full of staying hydrated and revising their gameplans, the players brought out their original energy. During the beginning of the first half, both teams missed out on scoring. However in the 46th minute, Yannik B. from the tigers padded the lead for ISKL on a header off a corner kick giving them a 2-0 lead. Immediately after, TAS pushed the ball down and Delgado-Marquez R. put one into the back of the net for TAS, putting them just a point behind ISKL.
The TAS fan section went nuts to say the least, starting their distinctive icelandic clap and a tiger nation cheer. However, in the 57th minute, ISKL put the dagger into TAS’s chances with a game-sealing goal from Elvis P.
