The crowd gathered for a highly-anticipated game between our very own ISM Bearcats and the ISKL Panthers. Before the game, girls from both teams started off with their respective powerful and fierceful cheers. While the crowd was full of excitement, Panthers #15, Katerina Guzman, started off with a powerful serve. The game kicked off with Bearcats #11 Johanna Olafssson’s spike, leading the score 4-2 in favor of the Bearcats.
With consistent support from both schools, the Bearcats was in the lead 8-2. Panthers #1, Elsa Emil Rinaldi, did a powerful spike– only to be blocked successfully by Bearcat #6, Nika Gonzales, earning a point for ISM. The gap between the scores of both schools only widened as the game progressed, with the bearcats leading 15-3. In between the tireless crowd, parents of the Bearcat players cheered and delivered a deafening roar of drums and tambourines to provide morale support. Suddenly, Panthers #12, Ziya Griffin, did a sloped spike, earning the Panthers a point. Despite the Panthers’ best attempts, the Bearcats maintained a strong lead of 19-6 and ultimately won the first set with a score of 25-10.
After a short break, when coaches giving feedback to their own hyped teams, the second set began. Through the gaps between the handmade posters of Elementary School students, the crowd cheered excitedly as the teams made their way back onto the court and the game resumed. The set was initiated with a serve by Bearcats #8, Juju Lapus, which ended up as a point to the Panthers. Soon, the teams were tied at 5-5. Building on this early success, Panthers #17, Lea Chiaradia, performed an outstanding serve to earn another point. Towards the second half of the set, both teams were tied yet again at 15-15. However, the Bearcats stepped up and won the second set by a tight, three-point lead of 25-22, emerging victorious against the Panthers.
