We started the afternoon off with a brilliant match between the Jakarta and Bangkok soccer girl teams at 11:00AM. The bleachers were packed with parents, friends and students who were cheering at the top of their voices while the teams calmly stretched and prepared themselves for the big game.
Right away, the JIS team started the match by attacking hard, and the ISB team was on the defense - they had a few narrow escapes that had everyone on the edge of their seat. Adys Y. played a major role for ISB in defending the many attempts made by a few key JIS players, including Kyla W., Nadine Z. and others.
In the second quarter of the game, the roles were reversed and JIS became the defender while the ferocious ISB attacked. JIS’s goalie Charitra V. had a strong role in defending ISB’s moves towards the goal.
With both teams attacking hard, ISB and JIS seemed evenly positioned when the half time break took place. Just 10 minutes later, both teams came back onto the field, refreshed and ready for battle. Before we knew it, JIS’s Ellie F. scored a goal, 3 minutes into the second half!
For the rest of the match, the ISB team worked hard to score a goal, but by the 60th minute it was beginning to look like it was all over. One more reversal was in store for the match; the ISB co-captain Ashley B. scored a goal in the very last minute, becoming an instant heroine for her team, and the match ended in an exciting and well deserved draw.
