The first day of the highly anticipated Triple-IASAS has come to a close after a day of exciting matches. On Thursday at 10:15 AM, the second girls’ soccer game of the tournament took place on Middle School Field, pitting the Panthers—International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL) and International School Bangkok (ISB)—against one another.
While the sun beat down on the field, the shaded bleachers filled up with schoolmates, parents, coaches, and teammates clad in their school colors. The spectators cheered intensely all throughout the team warmups, setting the scene for the drama that was about to unfold on the pitch. The game began with a kick off from ISKL, and the scoreboard remained at 0-0 for most of the first half as the ball was shared evenly by both teams. Then, only five minutes from halftime, Ayari Omachi of the ISKL Panthers received a pass from one of her teammates and kicked the ball straight into the back of the opposite net, scoring the first goal of the game. Thanks to the amazing goal, the first half ended with ISKL leading 1-0.
The enthusiasm of the crowd carried into the second half which started with ISB’s kick off. ISB had solid control of the ball for the next few minutes and took it down the field. ISKL’s defense fought to regain control in their goalie box, but scored an unfortunate own goal, levelling out the score to 1-1. As the game continued on in the hot summer weather, all players showed exceptional determination and camaraderie. Finally, a mere ten minutes before full time, the ball is driven into ISB’s box where Hana ElSoda, captain of the ISKL Panthers, scored the second and final goal of the match.
The game ended with a score of 2-1, and the ISKL Panthers celebrated their victory with cheery smiles. Throughout the entirety of this morning match, members of both teams demonstrated noteworthy support and teamwork as the game unfolded. Coaches and team captains consistently gave directions to help out their teams, and ultimately, the holistic positivity, determination, and dedication of both Panther teams made for a truly unforgettable competition.
