The second day of the epic Super IASAS was yet another unforgettable experience. At 8 AM on Friday, the first girls’ soccer game of the day commenced on the MS Field where the Bearcats of International School Manila (ISM) faced off against the Eagles of Singapore American School (SAS).
The day began with a cool breeze wafting over the field as the teams warmed up with passes, headers, and drills. Crowds began to drift in, filling the stands; students in the audience were on the edges of their seats in anticipation for the exciting game to come. Then, a whistle blew, and SAS kicked off to begin the game. The crowd was tense as the ball spent most of the first half near ISM's goal. When the timer hit seven minutes, SAS gained control of the ball and Eagle Serra P. makes her way past two of ISM's defenders and kicks the ball into the right side of the ISM's goal. A rush of cheers ensued as fellow Eagles jumped up out of their seats to celebrate the goal.
Later, a few minutes to halftime, Kate C. of ISM received a long ball and dribbled it down to SAS' goal. With SAS defenders just a few steps behind her, she took the shot, but the ball was valiantly saved by goalie Grazzia B. of SAS. The first half ended with a score of 0-1 with the Eagles in the lead.
The Bearcats and Eagles made their way back onto the pitch, signifying the start of the second half. ISM started off; minutes into the second half, SAS' Saskia V. showed the audience an amazing run, sprinting down the field and shooting for a goal. The crowd craned their necks to keep their eyes on the ball as it is saved by the ISM goalie Shain P.
Then, at the forty minute mark, the referee called a foul. Eve H. of ISM took the free kick; she focused on her target, and skillfully shot. The ball soared through the air towards the top right corner of SAS’ goal and landed neatly in the back of the net. People in the stands jumped up and cheered as the score was tied 1-1. Spirits were high as spectators' eyes followed the ball up and down the field. Seconds away from the end of the match, SAS was given a corner kick just off to the right of ISM's goal. After a fight for control over the ball, Ariana R. of SAS slid the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal, just a foot away from the ISM goalie's reach. Seconds later, the whistle blew and the game ended with a score of 1-2 to the Eagles.
Both teams gathered on the field post-game, and the crowd cheered wildly for both the Bearcats and Eagles, who showed them a remarkable game full of extraordinary skill and spirit. Good luck to both teams for their upcoming games!
