The HS Gym was evidently ready for the first ISM Boys Volleyball Game of the “Super IASAS” as the crowd roared with excitement. The stands were filled with students, athletes, and parents, each one immersed in the battle between the ISM Bearcats and the JIS Dragons. As players of both teams entered the gym, the chanting that entranced the gym began and seemed to never end.
The first set was an opportunity for either team to make a statement. The Dragons made a better one. From the get-go both teams were fired up with energy and it was a true neck and neck battle, with the momentum constantly shifting. The starters definitely showed up. Joaquin C. and Brian C. of ISM made clear impacts with their setting and laser-like spikes. On the other hand, Dayon M. of the Dragons incredible diving save was a highlight that riled up the crowd. The final moments were tense and it seemed like ISM had the upper hand, but the Dragons overcame a 7 point deficit and reigned victorious. The final score of the first set being 25-23.
The second set was a similar story with a different outcome. Much like the first set, the score was close with ISM slightly in the lead. JIS continued their excellent show of talent from the first set, but ISM seemed possessed to win. The ISM team ran like a well oiled machine, with perfect sets, dives, and serves, all working in tandem with each other. Nonetheless, the dragons played valiantly and defended their court. Eventually the Bearcats won 25-13. They looked hungry for the win and looked to prove it in the third and final set.
The last and final set was the decider, and both teams played their hearts out. JIS, fueled by their second set loss, played with intensity and started off with a strong lead spearheaded by the spectacular play of Dayon M.. However, the Bearcats, well supported by the enthusiastic crowd, came back 10-10 with a variety of blocks from Sam J. and high-speed serves and spikes from Brian who played like the clear MVP of the match. The game was a nail-biter to the very end, extending to multiple deuces. Finally, with the score 15-15 JIS started to pull ahead, with a pair of powerful spikes from Dayon M. and an incredible save and block from Jesse M.. The final score was 17-15 to the JIS Dragons.
Both teams played with passion and it showed in their respective games. We wish them the best of luck in their remaining games!
