Day one of Super IASAS has now come to a close. Having officially kicked off the tournament, the volleyball IASAS audience has already had their fair share of spikes, passes, and receives. The fifth match of the day pit the Jakarta Dragons against the ISKL Panthers. With the game coming to a start, the bleachers were crowded with students, parents, coaches, and teammates all lined up to support the athletes. Loud cheers and morale could be heard far and wide.
The first set started off with ISKL winning the first point with a powerful serve. The game continued, filled with thrilling spikes and tips from JIS in an attempt of leading. With a losing streak of five points in a row, ISKL managed to end a long rally with a fantastic spike. As the game progressed, Preethika A. of ISKL was able to gain four points in a row with four well-placed serves, earning loud cheers from schoolmates and parents sitting in the bleachers. Eventually, the score came down to 16-24 to the Dragons. Despite being nine points away, the Panthers put up a valiant fight in a lengthy rally, though it was ultimately ended with a fantastic tip from Avril D, of JIS.
The enthusiasm of the crowd carried into the second half. The characteristic school colours of blue and yellow washed the bleachers as more people arrived to cheer on the athletes. The game began with ISKL once again taking a lead of 2-0, though it soon became tied at 4-4. Around mid-game, a lengthy point of scrambling, tips, and spikes commenced, eventually being ended by ISKL with a great save and spike aimed at the very back of the court. Ultimately, the JIS Dragons took the win 25-16, with a spike that the Panthers simply couldn’t save despite a strong effort. Both teams showed incredible perseverance, and played with true passion!
