XC Girls 5KM Race
Through the assistance of ISM and the Manila Polo Club’s staff, as well as Bearcat Council and other IASAS representatives, the IASAS Exchange’s most promising runners lined up at Manila Polo Club with mixed feelings of excitement and anxiety. Following the boys’ race, however, the girls’ 5KM race at 9:40 AM was one of bustling energy and great excitement.
Led by TAS’s Sarahi R., runners triumphed across the course and strived for their respective personal bests. Similarly to that of the boys’ race, runners initially ran in one tight group and later divided into several packs at approximately the 1km mark.
A total of 38 runners crossed the finish line with heavy breaths, stumbled steps and tears of immeasurable pain- however, the electrifying roars of Bearcats, IASAS athletes and spectators alike evidently pushed runners to the limits of their physical abilities.
A stream of runners sprinted across the finish line 18 minutes after the gun went with hopes of outrunning the person in front of them. SAS’s Mikela M., at 18:24 minutes, was the first place runner- 1:09 minutes ahead of the second-place runner, Sarahi R. of TAS, who finished at 19:34 minutes. Therese R. of SAS ran an inspired race, finishing third with the time of 20:35 minutes.
The top three runners were followed by JIS’s Eden M., TAS’s Evelyn L., ISB’s Angel E., SAS’s Yuhyun Y., Akira Y., Maria V., and Pooja K. That being said, all athletes proudly flaunted the product of their physically and mentally rigorous training by bringing home individual victories.
The 5km race was scored according to the first five runners from each team to cross the finish lines. Each runner received points that correspond to their respective placings- the team that accumulates the lowest score wins.
The current standings for the boys’ race are as followed: SAS (28 points), TAS (58 points), ISB (70 points), JIS (114 points), ISM (121 points), followed by ISKL (140 points).
Although the 5KM race is the main event, runners are hoping that tomorrow’s 3KM race at ISM will allow their respective teams to drive up through the ranks. We wish the best of luck to the athletes for their 3KM time trial!
