The second girls volleyball game began at 9:45am in the MS gym, and it was a battle between Taipei American School (TAS) against the International School of Bangkok (ISB). The tension was palpable in the air, and the players could feel it too, as both teams started off with several missed serves; they all seemed nervous as it was their first IASAS game of 2019.
The first team to calm down and readjust themselves was TAS, who began a continuous scoring streak with their remarkably strong serves. It seemed to be that the tigers were in the lead with a score of 2-8, but the dragons persevered and caught up with their sharp strikes that moved the score to 11-16. Unnerved by this temporary slip up, the TAS girls fought back with equally matched plays and Sarah J.’s amazing spike ended the first set at 25-14, with the tigers’ victory.
The second set could be the final match if TAS once more outplayed the dragons. Clearly they had this thought in mind as they had control of the court right off the bat. In this set, TAS’s teamwork was extremely remarkable; they undoubtedly had a flexible team dynamic that was prepared for both defense and offense. It was evident that this was a great game on and off the court, as the incredibly supportive crowd of coaches and parents shouted “nice combo!” at the girls. The dragons decided it was time to pick up the pace and quickly scored 10 points, only one point from a tie with TAS. Nevertheless, TAS refused to give the lead to ISB, nor even a tie. Similar to the first set, TAS always kept the advantage, with an average of 4-5 points more than ISB. Eventually, TAS won 25-18, effectively ending the game in two sets.
Both TAS and ISB did very well on their first game of IASAS 2019, and we wish them all good luck for their upcoming games!
